Cultivating Resilience in Women and Girls through Yoga

Monday, March 12,2018 Varitan Hall, Armenian Convention Center

International Day of Yoga Committee (ISYC) at the United Nations organized this event which took the form of a very interactive discussion among some highly interested yoga enthusiasts and practitioners!

Ms. Denise Scotto, Chair of IDYC, opened the session with a grounding meditation and some movements bringing everyone’s energy into the present.

BK Tina Agarwal, PhD, Research Scientist, shared how a spiritual lifestyle has helped her especially during times of intense research. She noted that the practice of staying connected with her inner core brought the mental stability that is often needed in her job.

BK Sabita Geer, Representative of the Brahma Kumaris at the United Nations, gave the audience a glimpse of how meditation and yoga have changed the lives of rural families in various parts of India. She made references to the ongoing project, Sustainable Yogic Agriculture, and programs offered by Radio Madhuban 90.4 FM that empower rural women and girls.

The question and answer session that followed these presentations generated a lot of enthusiasm especially when the delegation from Russia shared how yoga is empowering women in their cities! After a powerful ten minutes of guided reflection by BK Sabita, it seemed the women left feeling and knowing that ways of empowering their inner core are accessible to all, including the marginalized.

International Day of Yoga Committee at the United Nations is a coalition of NGOs.
