International Day of Peace Event at the UN
‘The Dignity of Being Human; Our Shared Humanity; Peace as a Human Right; Enjoying Political,. Social, Economic, and Cultural Rights.’
Friday, September 21, Tillman Chapel of the UN Church Center
Over 60 Peace-loving friends eagerly gathered in the Chapel in preparation of yet another wonderful event to celebrate the International Day of Peace at the UN. Denise Scotto, Esq., Chair of the International Day of Yoga Committee at the UN, warmly welcomed everyone and briefly shared the history around Human Rights Day which was the theme for this year’s Peace Day observance.
Eleanor Roosevelt’s Legacy was beautifully captured through poetry and song by Rev. Heather Shay and Anwar, respectively. Rev. Dionne Boissiere, Chaplain of the Tillman Chapel, shared a motiving message for peace which was followed by the awesome singing of Paul Luftenegger, song writer from Canada. Paul also sang John Lennon’s Imagine to a video clip illustrating the Peace Tree Project which involves children expressing what peace means to them.
The event closed with a guided meditation by Rev. Qalvy Grainvolt of The Shinnoy Center, which took everyone into that special place within from where peace flows.
The new logo for International Day of Yoga Committee at the UN was launched during the event.
The afternoon continued with more Peace events organized by various NGOs. It’s always inspiring to be part of something that brings people of all various backgrounds – ethic, cultural, religious, social, and political – together to share and experience peace. Peace is our common goal as it is our common nature!
May Peace Prevail on Earth!
