Road Safety Through Self-Transformation

The Brahma Kumaris in Mauritius, together with the different stakeholders of the country launched the ‘Road Safety through Self-Transformation’ initiative. Representative from over 50 national and international organizations attended. Among those present were the CEO of Special Road Safety Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office, representatives form Traffic Branch, Road Development Authority, insurance companies, public transportation agencies, banks, various government departments as well as universities. The event was widely covered by local newspapers.

The Brahma Kumaris are organizing several activities to commemorate the UN Global Road Safety Week (May 6 – May 12) in collaboration with the Special Road Safety Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office as follows:

May 3 : Press Conference to announce the program of the week

May 6 : Opening of the Safety Week with other stake holders at Municipality of Curepipe, accompanied by an Exhibition on Road Safety through Self-Transformation.

May 8 : Television Program – Forum consisting of the following resource persons:

1) Head of Special Road Safety Unit

2) Representative of BKWSU

3) Psychologist or Psychiatrist

4) Representative of Police Force – Traffic Branch

5) Representative of RDA

6) Representative of Minister of Public Infrastructure

7) Representative of Drivers

8) A victim of Road Accident

May 9 : Awareness Program and Open Day/ Exhibition in the East with Eastern Stone Crusher Ltd.

May 11 : Awareness Program and Open Day/ Exhibition in the South with Omnicane.

May 12 : Closing ceremony at Municipality of Port-Louis.
