Areas that were looked at so far, include ‘The Role of Community Media’ and the involvement of indigenous youths in upholding these rights.

It was so heartwarming to see the extent to which emphasis was being placed on upholding the rights of those who are the ‘original immigrants of the world.’ Their connections with the energies of the universe and Mother Nature is something the world has drifted from under the impact of the modern and digital times. Indigenous peoples are inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures and have ways of relating to people and environment which need to be recognized more and sustained.

The role of community media is vital in accomplishing this, especially radio, as this is more available to the people. Radio facilities are being developed in many countries allowing easier ways to educate  youths about their culture, using their own language. It was noted that community media helps remind people of who they are and of the sacredness of their identity.

However, since youths prefer to listen to music, play video games, browse the web, etc., getting their involvement in learning more about their culture is posing a challenge as most traditional knowledge was handed down orally, resulting in a lack of documentation.

It is hoped that with the growing interest to support the rights of the Indigenous Peoples, these challenges will be resolved.

It was encouraged to explore indigenous communities around us as they are the ‘original immigrants of our world.’

It would be wonder if we can re-learn the connection between the sacredness of our spirit and the energies of the universe. Imagine if we are aligned with all this, how simple life would become! Is this not how we lived many generations ago? Wouldn’t our world a better place if we can do this again?
