Adopting A Spiritual Vision to Transform the Trajectory of Social Development

The Doha Political Declaration calls for a “political, economic, ethical, and spiritual vision for social development” anchored in human dignity and mutual responsibility. This interactive workshop was designed to recalibrate our approach to social justice using a unique “reverse spiritual trajectory” model. Participants learned how to connect desired outcomes back to the foundational states of awareness and consciousness required to sustain them in the work they do.

Speakers included:

Gillian D’Souza Nazareth, NGO CSocD Committee Chair, Red Dot Foundation Representative at the UN

Joni Carley, Covenor of the Unitive Cluster and Representative of Pathways to Peace at the UN

Dr. Kinnari Murthy, NGO Representative of the Brahma Kumaris at the UN

Sabita Geer, NGO Representative of the Brahma Kumaris at the UN, warmly welcomed the guests and opened the conversation by inviting each one to reflect on, “What does a cohesive society look like to you? What does it feel like to live in such a world?” Participants then shared in pairs. Visions included: open-mindedness, simplicity, acceptance without judgement, a sense of comfort and trust, a cohesive society is one that honors the unity of uniqueness of its people and provides channels for them to express their hopes and aspirations, one where people are genuinely happy, not the jumping up and down and grinning kind, but a true feeling of inner security.

Participants also reflected on the spiritual trajectory and mapped out their individual trajectory.

Gayatri Naraine, Main Representative of the Brahma Kumaris at the UN, beautifully summarized all the sharing by reminding us of our shared united consciousness.
